Is this a Mermaid Olympic team?
No. This is not a team try out for any team within the U.S. or planning to travel outside of the U.S. This is an individual based competition aimed at recognizing top athletes. With a 1-time commitment per competition contract. 
Is there an age limit?
Yes, the minimum age is 18 however, athletes can be no older than 65 in order to compete. Athletes must be physically fit, be able to quick-release all equipment, and accept all swimming risks. 
Will there be a youth division?
No, not at this time. Mermaid Trials is committed to improving the sport, prior to the introduction of guppies into the mix. Mermaiding is an inherently dangerous sport, especially for young children; where the risks of drowning are higher. 
Will scores be public?
Yes, it has been a top priority to provide athletes access to their scores and commentary information. Commentary will not be made public by MTUSA however, scores will be available to the general public post-event. 
Will the event be livestreamed?
Unknown at this time. Athletes are welcome to stream and film for themselves while competing. There will be photography crews on deck for racing, and underwater for the performances. Photo packages will be available for purchase in accordance to the photography teams. 
What pool is hosting the competition?
The Human Performance Center or [HPC building] at Utah Tech University has agreed to host MTUSA 2026!

Spectator parking does not require any passes for the event. 
How big is the Pool?
The HPC pool will be Long Course Meter configuration (50 M) 
Athletes will start their race at the diving board end of the pool
 (facing pool: right hand side)
Swim 50M, turn, swim 50 and hit touch timing pad (Colorado Timing system) 
Locker rooms
Locker rooms are split in Male/Female with wide and thin lockers. Showers are available in private spaces with Wheel chair accessible rooms. 
Athletes wanting to lock their equipment away from the pool deck MUST bring their own combination lock. 
Available Food
Grazers inside the HPC across from the pool areas offer a variety of swim meet friendly food options for purchase including acai bowls, smoothies, shakes, juice and assorted small snacks. 
Athletes are encouraged to be aware of their nutrition before, during, and after competition. Do not experiment with new foods prior to competing. 
Food is not available for pre-order.

Tickets go on sale online March 1st, 2026 
All attending spectators including babes-in-arms are required a ticket
for entry. 
Pre-sale Tickets are $15 
Tickets at the door are $20

Tickets are sold until capacity is hit, Pre-sale ticket purchases are highly encouraged to secure your spot at the competition, tickets at the door are NOT guaranteed.
Bag Policy
Mermaid Trials USA will be a no-bag event for spectators. 
All bags of any size will be refused at the door. 
Parking
Spectators are allowed parking in student and general lots.
No passes required.
Fins
All monofins must be one of the listed approved brands. No silicone monofins or silicone tails are allowed for competition.

Tail Skins
Tail skins from any mermaid brand are allowed as long as the waist band does not close with a draw string. Tails must be slip on/slip off. 
Accessories
Mermaids are allowed accessories for the Artistic Performance event. Accessories MUST be tightly secured to the body of the performer, no loose props are allowed [Nothing hand held.] No glitter is allowed on anything that goes in the pool, makeup, body paint, sequin parts etc. 
Accessories like arm bracers, headdresses, and tops are allowed to be made of silicone.
Goggles
Racing events: Goggles, nose clip, and swim caps are recommended. 

Artistic Performance: Goggles and nose clip allowed, (swim caps discouraged) no points will be deducted for their use.
